Winter Tips & Cleaning Checklist

You will need to maintain your office with some winter cleaning procedures during the colder seasons, our team at Executive Building Maintenance have over 34 years of experience, if you don't learn anything from today (we hope you do) just know that you can always rely on our services to do the things below:

1. Caring For Your HVAC

Every winter, replace your air filters and consider having your air ducts and vents professionally cleaned. According to the EPA, it is best to replace filters at least every three months. We recommend more often in months where you use your HVAC heavily, like summer and winter. It not only makes sure the air stays clean but ensures steady airflow. Furthermore, replacing your air filters also help reduce on furniture and floors. Cleaning your ducts and vents also clears away excessive build-up, once again ensure proper air-flow. It also removes allergens which can get trapped within your home and cause issues all year long.

2. Proper Water Drainage

A water drainage system is used to direct excess water away from a property, especially the building and landscaping areas. Remove salt and water from office floors, especially entryways, make sure any excess water from the rain/ snow make its way out of with proper pipelines installed. Make sure all the drainage systems are free from any blockages such as leaves and rocks that may make their way with the rain or the wind.

3. Winter Snow-Storm Preparations 

Inspect building by determining your greatest risk potential: loss of heat, frozen pipes and/or loss of access due to snow/ice. Schedule a maintenance/ snow removal, leave the job to the professionals so you can focus on what's important. A few things to keep in mind as you work with your employees:

  • The midst of a storm is not the time to figure out who is responsible for these tasks, assign a few employees that would be up for some tasks such as ensuring the office parking lot is safe and drivable
  • Review your contracts with vendors, insurance providers, property managers, and landlords
  • Keeping facilities and equipment in safe operating condition
  • Make a plan if there are any large snow coming or any winter storm thread

4. Disinfect highly-touched areas

Some office areas such as the lobby and the meeting rooms can be full of unwanted germs especially this time of the year. As the number of people getting infected with cold and flu are rising, we'll keep that in mind when disinfecting these areas. Most of our clients have requested to include this particular service as a part of their regular janitorial service: Cleaning and sterilizing room cleaning as well as washroom care and maintenance.
