The BC Restart Plan takes a phased approach to reopening. This allows sectors and activities within the phases to open when the evidence and data tells us the time is right, and as protocols and guidance are in place for them to do so safely.

The Phase 2 was launched on June 1, 2020 and the guidelines and extra safety precautions for sectors in Phase 2 are still in place. As we have entered Phase 3, we are expecting a return in film & t.v. production, hotels, resorts and camping, and education (for students in kindergarten through Grade 12 in September). 

While many people will have the option of physically returning back to work, we understand it brings uncertainty and anxiety for some as COVID-19 cases continue to occur.

You may have already referred to WorkSafeBC general COVID-19 health and safety FAQs for additional guidance on controlling exposure to the virus in your workplace. 

Remember that employers should ensure that the following workers do not come to work:

• Anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat and painful swallowing, must self-isolate at home for a minimum of 10 days.
• Anyone under the direction of public health to self-isolate must follow those instructions
• Anyone who has arrived from outside of Canada, or who is a contact of a confirmed COVID-19 case, to self-isolate for 14 days and monitor for symptoms. 

These policies should be communicated to workers so they understand their responsibility to not enter the workplace if any of the above conditions apply to them, and that supervisors may ask some simple questions upon entry or during shift to ensure compliance. Consider posting signs at entry places, setting out the policy requirements, providing a reminder to workers.

The BC Ministry of Health has also developed an online BC COVID-19 Symptom Self-Assessment Tool to help people determine whether further assessment or testing for COVID-19 is required.
